GP Jura Channel In this video, German probate lawyer and estate planning expert Bernhard Schmeilzl, Esq., explains the nature of a German Grant of Succession, the famous ERBSCHEIN. Under German law, there is usually no personal representative, i.e. no executor or administrator. Instead, the "heirs" (Erben) administer the estate directly. This also means that these beneficiaries may be personally liable for the debts of the deceased if they do not renounce the inheritance within a certain deadline. A concept which baffles inheritance lawyers in anglo-american jurisdictions.
