Patrick Reed CAUGHT Cheating AGAIN.. Here's How
Patrick Reed has been playing competitive golf since he turned professional in 2011. During that time, he’s built the reputation of becoming one of golf’s most controversial players, and has been involved in a variety of cheating scandals over the years. His controversies have not impacted his performance, considering that he has nine professional PGA Tour wins, including a win at the Masters in 2018. But now Patrick Reed was caught cheating again, so let’s take a little bit of a closer look to see what happened and why Patrick Reed is once again being accused of taking an unfair advantage in competitive golf.
Again in 2023, Patrick Reed was accused of cheating by golf fans and fellow competitors during the recent Dubai Desert Classic. After a poor shot during the third round of the tournament, Patrick Reed lost his golf ball in some palm trees and was unable to identify it as he walked in the direction of where the ball landed.
Video footage suggested that Patrick Reed’s golf ball was lodged in one of the trees, but the ability to identify his marking seemed improbable. This would have meant that Reed would have needed to go back to the 17th tee box to have another shot, but instead he claimed to two rules officials that he found his ball on a tree without ever getting a good look at it.
The reason that this is important is because Patrick Reed has been known to take advantage of the rules in the past. He was seen grounding his golf club at the Hero World Challenge a few years back to try and improve his lie before a difficult shot from a bunker. There was also another instance where he removed his golf ball from a plugged lie before consulting with an official, which inherently would have improved his lie before his next shot. Fans have taken notice of these consistent controversies with Patrick Reed, which is why he is one of the most controversial players in competitive golf right now.
The DP World Tour struggled to handle the backlash from this rules controversy, and thousands of fans are not convinced about whether or not the situation was handled in accordance with the rule book. Here’s what tournament officials had to say immediately following the third round of the Dubai Desert Classic.
