Mead is located 24 miles east of Las Vegas in Nevada and Arizona. Nearly 20 million people and vast tracts of agriculture are fed by Lake Mead's water. Some states that enjoy this water supply are; Nevada, Arizona, California, and a part of Mexico. The Hoover Dam's construction was responsible for its creation. With almost 750 miles of coastline, you can spend the day at the beach, boating and retreating for many hours. It is a beautiful scenery that is being threatened by the drought.
Lake Mead has a maximum capacity of 28.23 million acre-feet of water and is 112 miles long; its width is 532 feet at its deepest point. The Lake is 1,229 feet above sea level and has a surface area of 247 square miles. In surface area, it is surpassed by only Lake Powell. In the Mojave Desert, Arizona-Nevada, Hoover Dam, which created Lake Mead, is situated in Black Canyon about 30 miles east of Las Vegas, Nevada.
