Frontiers in Science: Capitalism, Climate and Democracy - More Heat than Light? A Drama in Five Acts
TU Dresden In view of the challenges climate policy is facing currently, the "systems question" is increasingly being asked. Are democracy and capitalism capable of an ambitious climate policy? However, this is an ill-posed problem because it presupposes that systems can only ever achieve equilibrium. This talk of Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer will show that there are multiple equilibria that are ethically of different quality. The goal is to develop reform-oriented policies that describe viable paths and resilient institutions to meet the challenges of the climate crisis.
