According to Serhiy Haidai, eight months into the conflict that President Vladimir Putin initiated against Ukraine, Russian troops are retiring en masse.
Haidai said on his Telegram channel that several Russian service members fighting in Ukraine are resigning and ending their contracts early.
"After participating in the battle against Ukraine, fifty percent of the 200 military soldiers working in the 3rd Guards Special Operations Brigade have resigned or prematurely ended their contracts," he said.
The governor added, however, that "first-timers," or newly enlisted Russian troops as part of Putin's mobilization order, "are battle-ready."
"Roughly 500 mobilized Russia sent service members from the 205th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade of the 49th Combined Arms Army to the fighting zone to replace the enemy's [Russia's] losses in the temporarily controlled regions [of Ukraine]," he wrote.
According to Haidai, the freshly mobilized recruits wore Soviet-style helmets. They were equipped with guns, both of which have traditionally been problematic.
It is not the first time Russian troops have declined to participate in Putin's Ukraine conflict.
Due to a shortage of essential supplies such as water, troops of the 127th Regiment of the 1st Army Corps rioted and refused to continue fighting, according to a Facebook post published by Ukraine's Operational Command South last month.
According to the leadership, the troops lacked assistance, and those in forwarding positions lacked water.
As punishment, the personnel was allegedly removed from their unit.
