Eric Thiman (pronounced Tee-man) was born in Ashford, Kent in 1900 and died in 1975. He was one of the leading Non-conformist organists in England. He was largely self-taught, was awarded FRCO in 1921 and his DMus in 1928. From 1930 Thiman was Professor of Harmony at the Royal Academy of Music, going on to be Dean of Music at the University of London from 1956-1962. He was a prolific composer, with over 1,300 works published.
This is a quiet piece based on the tune commonly sung to "The Lord's my shepherd, I'll not want", composed in 1952 and in the style of a sarabande.
