Bob Gager explains how dark childhood prepared him to fight food insecurity in Central Texas

(#KWTX) - “We used to say that we could feed a family for five dollars, it’s not that easy anymore,” Bob Gager, the man behind the Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, said as he discussed food insecurity in Central Texas.
As the price of groceries continues to rise, studies show one in eight Texans suffer from food insecurity.
People experiencing hard times and hunger need sustenance and strength, and for more than 15 years, Gager and his all-star team a Shepherd’s Heart food pantry have provided both.
“We’re running about six to seven thousand families a month - a month!” Gager said.
His consistent fight against hunger started long before he made his way to Texas.
