"An infinite sadness in a major key" is how Giacomo Puccini described one of the most beautiful bel canto operas - LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR by Gaetano Donizetti: the Scottish noble tragedy tells of feuds, intrigues and an impossible love - and culminates in the world-famous "mad scene".
In Filippo Sanjust's set for this production, one imagines oneself in 17th century Dutch group paintings - sprawling robes, millstone collars and uniform sashes make the hearts of fans of historical performance practice beat faster.
