One of the works made in response to my Arts residency with FiLiA 2017 supported by Arts Council England.
During the residency Susan Merrick ran her project Statements in Semaphore which involved working with the organisation Women in Prison. Susan facilitated a total of twelve creative workshops in a UK prison and local refuge, and responded artistically through performative action, film and installation to the dialogue that came out of the workshops.
HMP Voices in one of the works and includes footage from a day of action the artist undertook at ex HMP Holloway, along with the spoken words of performer Slimmas.
The end image shows a T-Shirt covered in messages from prisoners who were previously in Holloway, to the prison. The Artist took the messages to the prison and left the T-shirt there.
