California Scallop CATCH AND COOK

SCALLOP CATCH AND COOK Catching these scallops reminds me of a time I wanted to catch clams in the mud flats up in Monterey Bay. I had been in LA for about a year at the time and had nearly no friends. It felt lonely and I wanted to get outdoors regardless of how I was feeling. I took the 5 hour car ride up and all I did was find copious amounts of mud. There wasn’t a single clam in site! I’m not sure if it was because I didn’t know what I was doing or what but I remember being super frustrated. When Kevin (my guide) pointed out this scallop, it was deeper than I was comfortable going, so he grabbed it. There are so many things you need to learn before attempting to free dive safely, going with a guide is recommended. With that being said, it is the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Seeing an entire different world underwater is breathtaking. Scallops are one of the only bivalve mollusks you’re able to eat during red tide because you don’t eat the guts along with it. Needless to say the California Scallop is far superior to the Florida Scallop.
