Oil was flat Thursday as possible pause in US rate hikes and passing of a key vote on the US debt ceiling law were offset by report rising inventories in world's largest oil consumer. US Federal Reserve officials suggested Wednesday that interest rates could hold steady this month, and US House of Representatives passed a bill suspending the government's debt ceiling, increasing chances of avoiding a catastrophic default. Brent crude futures fell 7 cents to $72.53 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude fell 8 cents, or 0.1%, to $68.01 a barrel. Both benchmarks fell on Tuesday and Wednesday.
