The discussion, entitled “Conversations with Community Giants: Celebrating Black History,” was a live discussion in the Staten Island Advance newsroom which featured three esteemed panelists: Laurie Cumbo, commissioner for the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs; Shaw-nae Dixon, owner of acclaimed soul food restaurant Shaw-nae’s House in Stapleton; and David McGoy, interim executive director of Sandy Ground Historical Museum, Rossville, the oldest continuously-inhabited free Black settlement in the United States.
