The CDC estimates there were up to 13 million cases of the flu between last October and this June during that time, and as much as 14,000 people died from the flu. Now a flu cases are picking up again across the country.
For years, the main focus in this country has really been the fight against Covid-19. But the flu can be very dangerous and it looks like this year we may have a pretty severe season ahead.
Australia had their worst flu season in recent years and usually what happens in the Southern hemisphere follows in Northern one.
For the past 2 years, we had restrictions and mask mandates, those have lifted, our behavior has also changed. We are out and about more, traveling more and are not as diligent about washing our hands.
All of this combined with low vaccination rates is a big cause for concern.
We have all forgotten that before COVID . It was the flu that was killing the elderly and immunocompromised. All this talk about COVID vaccines has caused vaccine fatigue. But you have to remember the flu vaccine has been around for years and it's safe. So the number one thing we should remember do is get vaccinated. I know that's not what you want to hear right now as we are all tired of hearing about vaccines, but only is the most important thing to prevent hospitalization and death from the flu.
