📺 Greg Norman Last To Know about Shocking PGA LIV Merger.. Here's Why
When the shocking announcement came that the PGA Tour would be merging with LIV Golf, many of the sports top figures actually found out on social media or from a last-minute phone call before the announcement was made publicly on the mainstream news. The former commissioner of LIV Golf, Greg Norman, was reportedly formed at the very last moment that he would no longer have any sort of power or influence after the merger took place with the PGA Tour.
These developments have long been rumored as Greg Norman has struggled to defend his position as commissioner and CEO of LIV Golf. For many months, golfers and representatives from the PGA Tour have been calling for Norman’s resignation so that merger talks could take place. These figures included superstar Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy who suggested that Norman should step aside so that the PGA Tour could negotiate in good faith in regards to a possible merger.
It turns out that those negotiations have apparently taken place without Greg Norman’s knowledge as he was informed in the final minutes before a public announcement was made on June 6th. During the announcement, there were no mentions at all of Greg Norman which means that he would not have any position of power with the new entity that is formed as a result of the merger going forward.
The new entity that is being formed has not been named yet, but it seems unlikely that the entity will retain the PGA Tour branding. The Saudi Arabian public investment fund also put forward a statement that claimed that they would continue to invest in the merged entity and support the world of men’s professional golf going forward.
This is the same public investment fund that the Saudi government used to fund LIV Golf and pay hundreds of millions of dollars in financial compensation contracts to some of the pros that came on board in the early stages. Here’s a statement from a PIF Spokesperson.
