If you want to survive the modeling industry :
You have to be your favourite first. It’s tough and takes a thick skin to put up with rejections on a daily basis based on how you look. As someone who started modeling to feel pretty and good about herself - I learnt this the hard way.
1. I wish I knew that modeling isn’t just about posing. It’s an overall business. You’re your own manager, marketer and even therapist during the hard times .
2. There’s soooo many kinds of modeling !! It’s not just walking the ramp and some models never do . Once you understand the categories of work that’s available - it helps to identify where you would do best and excel than try to fit into a market that’s not meant for you.
After 6 years of modeling - I realised I could also be a hand model ! I’ll talk more about that in the next reel 😉
3. The glamorous runway shows that you see - they don’t pay ! Well most of them don’t . And a models income is hardly coming from runway shows . It’s primarily print work and lookbooks that get you the $$$. What I learnt is chase your dreams strategically - a balance of fame and money 😄
