Yoram Margalioth (Tel Aviv University) speaks about recent Legislative Regulation of Interest-Free Loans in Israel's Ultra-Orthodox Communities: A Case Study of Government Involvement in Communal Finance.
The international conference "God, Taxes, and Societies: Exploring Intersections of Religion and Taxation in History" took place from February 29th to March 1st, 2024, in a joint collaboration between the Paderborn Institute for Islamic Theology, the Historical Institute, and the Center for Comparative Theology and Cultural Studies.
With a diverse array of religious perspectives—Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Protestantism, and Catholic Christianity—the conference fostered dialogues to enrich our understanding of taxation throughout history. Moreover, by embracing an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating insights from theology, law, history, and political studies, the conference aimed to illuminate the theological dimensions of past tax disputes.
