We compared Libero® Size 7 to Drynites Pull-ups 8-15 years, Abena® Abri Form Junior XS2 nappies, MoliCare Soft all in one Extra Size XS nappies, MoliCare® Super Plus Small nappies and MoliCare Mobile XS pull-ups.
The best nappy that would suit children that don't fit into standard size 6 nappies was Abena® Abri-Form Junior. For kids that are bigger than that (around 10+ years) we found the MoliCare® Super Plus nappy was the best. For kids that prefer pull-ups, we found that the MoliCare Mobile XS was better than the Drynites® products.
For our test we weighed each nappy when it was dry, submerged it in the sink for 5 minutes, let it drip dry for 5 minutes and then weighed it again. The difference in weight in grams is approximate to the amount of water they absorbed.
The Drynites for girls and boys products (8 - 15 years) are almost identical so we listed them in the results only once.
We know that this is not a scientifically valid test, to do this properly we would need to test 10+ samples of each nappy, exclude outliers and take averages. We would also precisely control the timings and dryings etc and would probably use the Rothwell banding test (as used for ISO absorbency testing) but it would have been wasteful and we didn't have time.
In practise the nappies could never absorb as much as we said in our test because they will probably leak or explode before they get to that point. It should also be noted that each product will fit a child in a different way, so it's possible that a less absorbent nappy will be more suitable for your child. Hopefully though the results will give parents enough information to make a good choice.
