Matthew 12:38-50 - Seeking a Sign
The Pharisees demanded Jesus show them a sign. What was ironic was Jesus had just healed a man who was both blind and mute. There was no sign that Jesus could give that would convince them He was the Messiah. He could have done a thousand miracles and they still would not have believed. The problem was not with Jesus, the problem was their in their hearts.
If someone does not know us we use an ID to prove who we are, but if we go to a friends house for dinner they do not demand an ID. In the same way if we spend time with Jesus, know Him personally, then we have no need to ask Him to prove Himself to us. But if we get caught up in life, take our eyes off of Jesus, we will begin to doubt. If we find we are questioning our Lord, the solution is to spend more time with Him. As we get to know Him better we will not need to ask for a sign!
