The Conjuring is a horror movie released in 2013, directed by James Wan and written by Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes. The movie is based on the real-life events that occurred in the Perron family's farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island, in the 1970s. The Plot:
The movie begins in 1968, when Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are paranormal investigators, are conducting a seance with a group of people. During the seance, Lorraine gets a vision of a demonic entity, which disturbs her greatly. Later, we see the Perron family moving into a new farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island. The family consists of parents, Roger and Carolyn, and their five daughters, Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy, and April.
As the family begins to settle in, they start to notice strange occurrences happening around them. Doors slamming shut on their own, the clock stopping at 3:07 am every night, and strange noises coming from the cellar. These occurrences start to escalate, and the family becomes increasingly frightened. Eventually, the paranormal activity becomes so intense that Carolyn reaches out to the Warrens for help.
Ed and Lorraine agree to investigate the farmhouse and quickly realize that it is being haunted by a powerful demonic entity. They discover that the entity is targeting the family, specifically the mother, Carolyn and that it intends to possess her. The Warrens decide to perform an exorcism on the mother, but they first need to collect evidence to convince the Catholic Church to approve the exorcism.
As they continue to investigate, they uncover the history of the farmhouse and the family who lived there before the Perrons. They discover that the previous family had a daughter named Bathsheba, who was accused of practicing witchcraft and sacrificing her child. Bathsheba's spirit had possessed Carolyn and was responsible for the paranormal activity.
The Warrens finally obtain the evidence they need, and they perform the exorcism on Carolyn. During the exorcism, Carolyn is possessed by Bathsheba, and the Warrens must fight to save her soul. With the help of their faith and a priest, they are successful in exorcising the demon and freeing Carolyn from its possession.
The movie ends with the Warrens returning home, where Lorraine has another vision of a demonic nun. This sets up the sequel, The Conjuring 2.
