Y-Fronts. Granny Bag makes a welcome return and manages to eke a little rebellion out of T-Shirt, but when their motorbike gives up the ghost, they're forced to try the doorbell of the nearby creepy castle. (There's *always* a nearby creepy castle.) Enter Dr Frankenstein's attempt at a monster which overdid the heart but fell short in the brain department. This episode was first broadcast on Monday, 2nd March, 1992.
The monster is played by one Lewis George, who was a regular in Gentlemen and Players as PC Perkins, but I can't find out a great deal more about him. Granny Bag, on the other hand, is of course Denise Coffey, who also had roles in The Tomorrow People and Spatz. In fact, she even made an appearance in Take a Chance, which is also from one of the same writers, according to IMDB. Her most famous television contribution is probably as a regular on the anarchic 60s sketch show Do Not Adjust Your Set alongside certain Pythons-to-be, but the earliest programme I remember her from is Look and Read's Dark Towers.
This episode is a bit of a change of pace, really, with its spooky tone and slower story (and character). It's funny, of course, but not necessarily in a madcap fashion - and it definitely has more emotion to it than usual, being quite melancholy in its way. Penny comes across very well in this one, I think, and it really sets things up nicely for the denouement yet to come. (And actually, on that note, doesn't the "Next week" teaser at the end contain a bit of a spoiler?) Oh, and Georgina's delivery of the "You too, Y-Fronts" line near the end deserves a special mention. It's not exactly a new joke, but my goodness did it make me laugh.
