Easter 2: Today begins a 5 week exploration of the eye-witnesses who told the story of Jesus. Simon the fisherman turns into Pete the preacher as he emerges from the first encounter Jesus' followers have with the Holy Spirit (who Jesus promised would make them his witnesses when he ascended back to glory Acts 1:8). Peter says that there's plenty of incontrovertible evidence about who Jesus is, what he has done, where he is now and what is yet to happen. The story can be believed and trusted today.
I include a hymn for you to singalong to, 'To God be the glory' (from the Royal Albert Hall) and at the end is an arrangement by a good friend, Richard Phillips (who is also playing the piano) of a song my father wrote a very long time ago. The words are: 'Glory to his name, glory to his name, now to my heart is the blood applied, glory, glory to his name,' That's the name of Jesus, of course and applying his blood to our hearts means that his forgiveness and cleansing have become effective in our lives as we have trusted this true story about Jesus.
I turn 70 this week, but since the Easter story of dodging death can be believed, I'm going to live for ever. It's a promise made by a reliable God...
