Ashmolean Museum Learn the story of the remarkable coin that revealed the incredible story of a man named Domitianus who claimed to be Roman emperor early in the AD 270s.
Found on farmland near Chalgrove, just less than 10 miles from Oxford, this coin is one of just two that evidence his rule! It is thought that Domitianus’ reign lasted just a few weeks.
The coin, discovered in a largely intact Roman jar alongside 5000 other coins, was found this month just 20 years ago.
