These verses are some of the most well-known verses of prophecy in the Old Testament. They give a picture of restoration of Israel as a nation. God uses the picture of resurrection as a metaphor for the restoration of the nation of Israel. Realizing that they have not lost national identity in the days of Ezekiel, they have lost national sovereignty. They will be regathered to the promised land through a supernatural gathering. The verses are clear that it will be done in such a manner as to know that God did it. They currently have national sovereignty as provided through the United Nations declaration of 1948, but they do not occupy the promised land. Most if not all of the elements of restoration have not occurred. The ultimate fulfillment will not occur until the second coming of Christ.
