DO:
1) Stay away from politics and religion UNLESS you two have already made a connection there
2) Make sure both you and her are having fun
3) Have a plan, but be flexible to change it in the moment
4) Gate the experience: always ask her if she'd like to go to the next stage
5) Be spontaneous if something cooler shows up
6) Stay present
DON'T:
1) Don't discuss your ex or past relationships in a negative way
2) Be afraid to get authentic and have the "real conversation"
3) Stick with just boring biographic information
4) Let it devolve into an interview / Q&A
5) Don't be lazy! Don't skip steps. Make sure you look nice + smell nice for the date. Make sure your car and house (and room and bathroom especially!) are clean and prepared if she ends up coming over.
SHOULD YOU GET PHYSICAL ON THE FIRST DATE?
It depends.
Do you like her?
Does she like you?
Is the attraction mutual?
Are you both feeling it?
Is there love in the air tonight?
Can you agree that doing so is NOT going to make either of you feel regret or some type of way? “Sl_t shaming” is still very much a part of our culture and women and men are often hardwired to view “easy” other humans as “less valuable”. So don’t be afraid to bring this up like, “I really want to get intimate with you, but I don’t want you to view me differently tomorrow.”
People are low on self-awareness, oftentimes even if they’re h0*ny and assure you they won’t, they’ll still hook up with you and then ghost you.
A note on alcohol: It increases the likelihood of a hook, but presents a barrier to trust/rapport/connection. So keep that in mind and adjust accordingly.
Where we’re at as a culture is we’re realizing more and more the destructive nature of random hookup culture and I think you’re going to see a return to the security of modern flirting, which means waiting until at least the 2nd date to get physical, there could be some light kissing and touching on the first date but I think it’s actually better for connection to show some restraint.
