There’s something so enchanting about a debut film that just knocks the wind out of you, and first-time filmmaker Celine Song’s PAST LIVES has definitely left us breathless. Stunning in its simplicity and quietly devastating, her tale of crossed fates and love that could have been assured earns our highest recommendation.
PAST LIVES follows two childhood friends from South Korea, Nora (Greta Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo), whose paths diverge after Nora moves half a world away. Falling in and out of each other’s lives over the years, their hearts remain haunted by the love that could have been.
We think it’s one of the best movies of the year, and here’s three reasons why we think you will too.
