Why There's a Pirate Flag On This US Navy Destroyer?

The guided missile destroyer USS Kidd DDG-100 is an exception for flying a pirate flag, but why does this vessel fly this flag? We must return to December 7th, 1941. At Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Rear Admiral Isaac Kidd led Battleship Division One. Kidd took command of his battleships from the bridge of the USS Arizona during the Japanese attack. The battleship was torpedoed and bombed by the Japanese, killing Admiral Kidd. In 1943, the first USS Kidd, a Fletcher-class destroyer, was commissioned, and her crew rapidly adopted the skull and crossbones symbol, pirate theme, and nickname "the Pirates of the Pacific." Their US Navy authorization was remarkable. They began rescuing downed military aviators and returning them to their aircraft carriers for a large ice cream ransom. The USS Kidd DDG-993, a new destroyer, raised the Jolly Roger until Taiwan got it in 1998. After launching in 2007, the contemporary USS Kidd adopted this ancient idea. The pirate flag can also be seen on the warship's Mark-45 cannon's back. Steel doors in the Kidd feature pirate skulls and crossbones. Due to their unique history, only the USS Kidd and her successor destroyer will fly the Jolly Roger.
