Kenny Smith Star Trek First Frontier sent out a nationwide casting call and had hundreds of casting submissions for potential roles. This video was submitted by Tara Ochs for the role of Commander Sarah April, the role for which she was chosen.
Note: When Tara closed communications, she reaches and taps her chest as if she had a TNG delta insignia communicator. This wasn't directed, this was instinctive, she did this on her own and I knew she was a Star Trek TNG fan instantly.
