The protesting non-BJP governments point out that for every tax rupee they contribute to the Centre - Karnataka get only 15 paise back, Kerala get 25 paise back and Tamil Nadu 29 paise. Contrast this with Uttar Pradesh that gets 2.73 rupees and Bihar which gets a whopping 7.06 rupees. For the BJP, this issue has come as a setback as it was already seen as having little chances of making much headway in the South in the coming election, writes political commentator Sumanth C Raman.
