TRAVEL VLOG IV There's no secret ingredient, because it's the same for every immigrant ever:
1 Have sufficient financial resources to last you at least a year, and bear all the expenses involved with visa application, housing, moving etc
2 Your skills should be complimentary to the economy of the country you're trying to live in. If you just wanna come to India and wait tables, uhm yeah there's at least 1+ billion Indians who can do that already. What do you bring to the table?
3 Make sure everything checks out with your visa (you're NOT allowed to work on a tourist/marriage visa in India for instance), your tax requirements, and make sure to read up on the laws of the country especially as a foreigner.
4 It's extremely hard work to build up a new life from scratch. In the end you have to believe it's worth all the sacrafices you're making by leaving your loved ones and the comfort of your home country.
The biggest misconception I see is that people think it's particularly easy to be a foreigner in India, for financial reasons or because of 'white privilege'. Maybe that's my fault a bit. I don't like to complain, and have rarely shared how many doubts, pain, and lonelyness I felt along the way of building a new life in India. Trust me, it's quite proportional to all the joy that I share here, but the joy is something that I'm personally wired to always focus on.
In the end I feel extremely privileged and honoured to live in India. Sharing the beauty of this country is such a delight, because I truly, truly, truly love my everyday life here🙏🇳🇱🩷🇮🇳
