Gussie and Twittering. Penny finds herself in the middle of a Jeeves and Wooster plot, with poor old Gussie Milksop being put under pressure by his aunt to settle down and get married. He doesn't have a fiancee, but he does have an engagement ring with a very familiar-looking stone on it - will T-Bag manage to get him to slip it onto her finger before Penny can intervene? This episode was first broadcast on Monday, 13th January, 1992.
Following on from the set-up episode, the series quickly hits its stride with the silliness ramped up straight off the bat. T-Bag Charlestoning into the house is quite something, the Walkman joke gave me a good chuckle, and the "I don't think I've had the pleasure" exchange is another one of those things I'm slightly surprised they got away with. And that's not to mention the pickpocket gag. In fact, I shouldn't be trying to single out anything in particular, because it's all good fun. It's also nice to see that Penny is resourceful and feisty, in stark contrast to nice-but-passive Polly a year earlier.
The guest star this week is David Neville, an actor perfect for super-posh parts who I will always associate with one line and one line only:

So imagine my delight when, late in this episode, his dander is once again very much up, and he actually declares as much! I gather that this was indeed a loving reference to the above, perhaps even suggested by David himself. He really is superb in this one, and you may also remember him from the very first episode of Mike and Angelo, from the same writers. The other guest role, meanwhile, is filled by Ralph Nossek (sadly no longer with us), whose IMDB goes back to 1954 and features the likes of Dickens and Shakespeare - in fact, he was Banquo in a 1970 adaptation of Macbeth.
Keep an eye out for some Children's ITV continuity featuring Glenn Kinsey, not to mention a nice promo for the new series of Press Gang.
Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.
