Hippies. Famous guitar star Ed Banger has both a gig coming up on the local offshore pirate radio station, and the next sunstone. He also looks incredibly like T-Shirt, who's just had a row with T-Bag, resulting in his banishment. Needless to say, a combination of chaos, confusion and bad singing ensues, with Penny fighting to make sense of it all. This episode was first broadcast on Monday, 3rd February, 1992.

Look out for plenty of references to 60s and early 70s music - no doubt sneaked in to give the parents of the day a bit of a giggle, but now appreciated by the original target audience as well. There are definite nods (in both the dialogue and the background music) to The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, T. Rex, Traffic (particularly Hole in My Shoe), possibly James Brown, and too many more for me to recall right now. Feel free to leave a comment if you think you've picked up on another one. Overall, the psychedelic feel is great, and Tabatha's spaced-out disguise and performance really made me laugh. I think it may all end with something influenced by Back to the Future, too, which is always a plus point. Also, remember the days when a "tranny" was a transistor radio?

DJ Sonny Daze is played by Joe Grossi, who you may recognise as Hopkins in Simon and the Witch. Besides that, he's had parts in Grange Hill, Kinky Boots, and The Da Vinci Code amongst others, and judging by the Facebook page his official website links to, he's still very active in 'the biz' indeed. That said, the star of this particular episode is definitely John Hasler in his dual role as both T-Shirt and rocker Ed ("Woodstock, Monterey, the Isle of Wight... I had my hot dog stand at all of those!"). He handles it very well indeed, sometimes apparently conversing with himself on-screen, and the song he sings is great fun. While most tunes on T-Bag down the years were written by Terry Trower, the music for Marshmellow Monday was provided, believe it or not, by none other than Tim Whitnall - the latter half of Mike and Angelo. Nice little crossover, there. The lyrics, meanwhile, contain one or two little in-jokes about the fact that John was growing up fast.

Don't miss the nice pieces of Children's ITV continuity at the beginning and end, presented by Tommy Boyd, and also featuring a promo for the excellent Finders Keepers. I was delighted when Challenge TV brought that back fairly recently - I wish more channels would consider repeating kids' shows of the era.

Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.
