Setting China and U.S. relations right from years of tensions has proven to be tough. That's amid high-level contacts on diplomacy, the economy and climate action. Author Peter Walker sees the dark clouds over China-U.S. relations, like being at odds over the emphasis on the individual in the U.S. versus China's more top-down collective approach. That's reflected on a big scale with a hodgepodge U.S. "sound bite" policy on China and an American attitude to be number one no matter what. However, he also sees a silver lining. Smart, seasoned diplomats from both sides are working hard to keep relations from going off the rails.
