Turkish Delight. A seller of sweets and soft drinks is the proud owner of both the next silver spoon and a genie in a bottle. Said genie loves shiny things. How will Sally manage to get her hands on what she needs, and will T-Bag get there first? T-Shirt, meanwhile, is running a temperature and feeling too unwell to complete his duties. Or is he? This episode was originally broadcast on Tuesday, 24th January, 1989.
The dynamic between T-Bag and T-Shirt is always fascinating, and it's taken to a different level in this one as there's evidently at least a degree of sympathy in their relationship when the thermometer tells its story. And that double-take! Elizabeth Estensen at her finest, there. Also interesting is the fact that Tallulah actually wins in this episode, only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory through no real fault of her own.
Martino Lazzeri plays Fizz in this, and he does so very well - but in the back of my mind I can't help wondering whether it's perhaps a bit of a mis-cast. I mean, surely the part was written for someone half his age and more impish, wasn't it? In fact, I have my suspicions that the character was based on a combination of Looney Tunes, but I could be wrong. Either way, Martino went on to be Joe Williams in Grange Hill, Alex Bell in Hollyoaks, and also had a one-off part in The IT Crowd, amongst other things. Before T-Bag, he was impressively in Blackadder's Christmas Carol, and coincidentally in the same episode of Bad Boyes as Diana Barrand. So there. Frank Coda is the other guest, meanwhile, and his IMDB entry goes back to 1955 and takes in recurring roles in the likes of Coronation Street, Z Cars, Don't Drink the Water, and three Morecambe and Wise shows.
From a technical standpoint, there's a dodgy post-production zoom around 7:44, and I'm struggling to figure out why. Presumably the director neglected to shoot enough close-ups or something - anyone?
Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.
