When a star explodes, it emits matter at nearly light speed, colliding with interstellar gas, primarily hydrogen. This collision pushes the gas forward, creating a shock front where hydrogen accumulates. The shock front is the boundary where two materials with different densities and velocities collide, creating sudden increase in pressure and temperature. Eventually, the shock front collapses under its own weight, forming new stars. Space telescopes detect this process through infrared radiation, as Earth's atmosphere absorbs it.
