This is an audio recording of Mark Twain's classic short story To the Above Old People.

Mark Twain, born Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), is one of the most beloved American authors. He's best known for his classics, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), both of which are widely considered among the greatest pieces of American literature, and he also authored the classics, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) and Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894). Twain was an adventurer who travelled widely through the United States and Europe, and even spent time in South America and the Pacific islands. His satire and wit are legendary, as are his stories about life on the Mississippi, where he was born and raised. Twain’s works – including his novels and short stories – possess a distinctively American sense of humor that cleverly satirizes social issues such as racism, politics and religion, and many of his characters embody the sensibilities of their time, making them all the more endearing with the passage of time. His iconic works have continued to shape generations of readers, inspiring discussion about morality, faith, race, and human nature for over 150 years.
