Mackenzie Rough The Esso Standard S.A.F. refinery was inaugurated in Bordeaux, France. 1959.
THE official event organized on the occasion of the inauguration of the Bordeaux refinery took place on October 1 under the presidency of Mr. Jacques Chaban-Delmas, President of the National Assembly, Mayor of Bordeaux, in the presence of MM . J.-M. Jeanneney, Minister of Industry and Commerce; P. Guillaumat, Minister of the Armed Forces; J. Blancard, ministerial delegate for Air.
Also attending the meeting were numerous official and private personalities, among whom we noted MM. Lyon, charge d'affaires of the United States; René Richard, vice-president of the Economic Council; Leblond, director of fuels; Robert André, president of the Union of Oil Industry Chambers, as well as several parliamentarians and senior civil servants.
Esso S.A.F., a subsidiary of the New York-based Exxon Corporation, said today that it would probably shut down its refinery next year at Bordeaux in southwest France. The company told the French authorities it planned to close the refinery because of overcapacity. The Bordeaux refinery is capable of handling three million tons of crude annually.
