Floods continue to wreak havoc in Assam; homeless people seek govt help

ANI News Flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical across the state. In the last 24 hours, 2 children drowned in flood waters in the Barpeta district taking the death toll to 5. As per reports, 48 villages have sunk underwater and 2,915 have been rendered homeless in the Bajali. District. Several houses were completely washed away in the flood leaving them homeless, foodless, and helpless. People are forced to take shelter on roads, in relief camps, and in embankments. Another destitute in the area said that they received relief materials for 1-2 days and some other NGOs helped them. Locals also sought relief materials and other support from the Government. Another resident got emotional while narrating the ordeal. The district administration has set up 29 relief camps in the district where 2,915 people are taking shelter. As per the flood report of ASDMA, 87,232 people have still been affected in the Barpeta district followed by 44,617 people in the Bajali district. 17,086 people in the Lakhimpur district and 5,909 people got affected in the Nalbari district. Notably, 563 villages under 23 revenue circles and 3801.63 hectares of cropland are still underwater.
