Lore: In 2127, Military surveillance satellites from nine different countries discovered a cluster of massive objects going through Neptune's orbit, effectively entering the Solar System. Over the next few weeks, civilian and military observatories continued to track the object until the United Nations Security Council revealed the objects to be almost certainly artificial, confirming the existence of life and intelligence beyond Earth. The UNE's announcement also stated that the objects' orbits would collide with Earth's in a year. 10 Million colonists departed Earth's orbit as part of the Atharian Corporation's Colonization Program. These colonists were intended to become the second wave of settlers in the newly sufficient Alpha Centauri Colonies. The colonization flotilla entered the artificial wormhole without incident. However, when the scheduled check-ins were missed and 30 months passed with no sign of the flotilla, Earth declared the flotilla lost, mourning the largest loss of life in the modern era.
When the objects, eventually recognized as spacecraft, arrived over Earth in 2129, their function as warships was exposed when the spacecraft destroyed the bare minimum of space-based defences that Earth's governments could build and deploy in a year. At the same time, the same warships launched an orbital bombardment campaign against the Earth's surface, focusing on major population centres. The Earth's forces responded by coordinating a global-scale intercontinental ballistic missile nuclear strike against the invading warships, destroying a significant number of the largest and most heavily equipped ships in the process. This action would greatly hamper the alien invasion's ability to launch orbital strikes against Earth, resulting in a protracted worldwide war of attrition against the aliens who have now been revealed.
During the next seven years of war, every nation-state would fall apart, global infrastructure would be reduced to pre-industrial levels, and one-third of the Earth's territory would be occupied. There were continuous battles between the Humans and the extra-terrestrial invaders, later revealed to be the Rek' Thalaran, across every continent at one point during the conflict, most notably Europe and South America. Meanwhile however, the Atharian Flotilla had not been destroyed in the transition but had instead arrived in an unknown star system. This system, while completely unknown, contained several worlds that appeared capable of supporting human life. The Settlement of Atharia began with Operation Longshot, in which thousands of automated probes were sent across the Atharian Star System to identify potential locations for human settlement.
Before these probes had even returned the Atharian Flotilla frantically moved to reorganize itself. Everything aboard each ship, from the enormous next-generation atmospheric processors and gravitational tethers, to the farming equipment and industrial machinery, all the way down to individual colonists, seeds and gallons of water, had been the result of decades of planning. This reorganization efforts was an almost unprecedented logistics effort. Without the means to sustain their population in a single settlement, and fearful of alien diseases, natural disasters, potential hostile life or other calamities the flotilla spread itself across the 2 Atharian continents, in hopes that some, if not all, would survive. While these settlements remained in contact at first, eventually their dwindling power reserves were better spent fuelling agriculture or nascent industry. Satellites were deployed from the flotilla to continue future communications with the other independent sites throughout the new Atharian home world. The Rek' Thalaran launched their first orbital strike on February 17th, 2090 CE, destroying Berlin. The orbital bombardment of the Rek’ Thalaran caused catastrophic damage to the European Federation's civilian administration. The Federation's military, on the other hand, was highly decentralized, with multiple regional commanders, and could not be crippled by a single decapitating strike. In 156 AL (After Landing) the pioneers of Atharia established the Reunion Day, a new institution that was created, the Atharian Assembly. (TBC
