In 2020, Zhong's wealth increased dramatically as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nongfu Spring saw a surge in demand for its bottled water, and Wantai Biological Pharmacy's rapid diagnostic tests were in high demand. As a result, Zhong became the wealthiest person in China and one of the richest people in the world.
