This chapter is a discussion of the notoriously bad shepherds of Judah. It covers the behavior of the shepherds as such behavior compares with expected behavior of real shepherds toward the ir flock; they were in it for themselves and not the flock. Some choice words are also used in mention of the flock; they had their behavioral problems as well.
Then the promises of restoration come rolling in. The bad shepherds will be removed and one shepherd, who will care for the whole flock is described. The shepherd is stated to be David. Of course, David is dead and, in the grave, so this has to pertain to Israel after the return of Jesus, when David will be resurrected. David, stated to be prince of Israel, means king of Israel. Jesus is, and will always be, King of Kings, over all the kings of the world. It is all very interesting.
