1. 🫠 I don't think it's fair to label any doctors except newly qualified doctors in their 1st year as "junior".
In your 1st year as a post-grad doctor, you have a provisional license instead of a full one. If you want to refer to us as "junior", fair enough.
However, calling a doctor with 7 years of experience after graduating medical school "junior" is ridiculous.
2. 🤓 “practically students" - let me tell you, the transition between being a final year medical student and a first-year doctor is not a seamless continuum where you hardly notice the difference.
Med schools try their best to ease the transition, but nothing can prepare you for when people turn to you for serious answers rather than just quizzing you on medical knowledge during the ward round.
3. 💸 “paid a hefty amount" - comparatively, consultants in the UK are paid considerably less than their colleagues across the Atlantic or in Australia.
They have also experienced serious pay erosion and are striking too.
☁️ I hope 2024 is the year we stop infantilizing qualified doctors because it is clearly supporting the government's narrative that we are only worth £15 an hour.
