NEWS: Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin - Networking for future investments after the war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has asked for rapid repair aid and long-term investment in his country's energy system, which was attacked by Russia. At the reconstruction conference in Berlin on Tuesday, Zelenskyi said that Ukraine needed replacement parts for power and heating plants that had broken down after Russian attacks. In addition, long-term investments in Ukraine's energy system are necessary and also beneficial for foreigners.
Selenskyj said that his country's energy infrastructure was one of Russia's most important targets. Nine gigawatts of generation capacity had already been destroyed. That is about half of what Ukraine needed at peak consumption times last winter. 80 percent of the thermal power plants and a third of the hydroelectric power plants have been destroyed.
Selensky praised his country as a location for long-term investments. "Ukraine has all the natural foundations for a modern energy supply. But we will not be able to realize this without your financing and your investments,” he said. “This is not about grants, but about profitable investments for your companies, a large market for your equipment, credit programs for your institutions.” This could create tens of thousands of jobs.
