Community Activists Demand Political Power and Inclusive Governance for Thriving Communities

· 30.07.2023 · 02:50:00 ··· ··· Sunday ·· 7 (0) Egberto Willies
Analilia Mejia, the Co-Director of the Center for Popular Democracy Action, provided a clinique on activism. She made it clear that the BIPOC community must engage and demand more from politicians seeking their votes.

"Our focus is on the building blocks that allow communities to thrive: affordable housing, access to healthcare, access to education. But it's not just about these basic needs. It's about political power, governing power. We can't just be expected to follow the rules of society and government without having a say in shaping them. That's a phony deal. We need to show up on election day and stand up for the issues that matter to us. And once we elect officials, we need them to show up for us every other day too. It's not enough to be sheep on go TV. It's about holding them accountable and making sure they address our concerns. Let's demand that they show up for us during the campaign and beyond.
