L: As for you, you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when
you followed the ways of the world.
C: But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive
with Christ.
L: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – it is a gift of God – not by
works, so that no one can boast.
C: For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which
God prepared in advance for us to do.

Prayer of Confession
Almighty God, merciful Father, we acknowledge that we have nothing of our own that is worthy of your lovingkindness. We confess that there is much in us that deserves your sore displeasure. Before your holy presence, we are ashamed of the coldness of our love, the feebleness of our faith, the poverty of our service. Forgive us, O Lord. Help us to truly believe what your Word says about grace and forgiveness, for all who confess their sins. Fill our hearts with joy for the grace of your salvation. Set us free, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love and serve you with willing minds and undivided hearts. We ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
