Indiegogo -- Help 11-Year Old Olivia See her Deported Best Friend

In second grade, third grade and fourth grade Olivia and Adar Hakim were best friends. Adar rushed to Olivia every morning at school with a hug. Olivia loved visiting Adar's home, where she was treated like family and began to learn Hebrew. They were on the phone every evening discussing Olivia's pet lizard, or singing Katy Perry songs. Weekends they had sleepovers that always ended just a little too soon for them.
Last year, when the two girls were in fifth grade, immigration agents knocked on Adar's door at 6 a.m. looking for her father. The San Francisco Israeli shopkeeper had lived in the U.S. 33 years without proper immigration papers, raising a family of two American girls, one American boy, and Adar, who was born in Israel before moving to the U.S. as an infant.
When we learned Moshe Hakim was apprehended, we contacted our local congressional representative Nancy Pelosi. We found a lawyer to better represent Moshe Hakim. We contacted journalists and advocacy organizations, and did everything else we could think of to help keep Adar's family from having to leave America for Israel, a country she and her siblings didn't know.
Despite an Obama Administration directive advising administration officials to take the needs of children into account in deportation cases, Moshe Hakim was sent back to Israel last fall. His wife and children followed.
Since then, Olivia and Adar talk on the phone every day. They're bereft: "Adar never laughs any more at all," Olivia said in May.
We're asking contributors to help reunite these , and also to make a statement against a deportation-friendly U.S. immigration policy that doesn't merely harm immigrant families, but also damages communities left behind.

Olivia still dreams of seeing Adar again. Adar has asked Olivia to attend her Bat Mitzvah.
