Der Beinwell (Symphytum officinalis) wächst fast in ganz Europa. Für die Arzneimittelherstellung wird heute vor allem die Wurzel verwendet. Diese wird ausgegraben im März/April oder im Oktober/November. Die wichtigsten Wirkstoffe sind, Allantoin, Pyrrolizidin-Alkaloide, Gerbstoffe und Asparagin.
