These verses are a follow-up to last week's lesson talking about our conduct as Christians, particularly Christians under persecution. We were told that our belief in Christ is a gift and, along with that gift comes another gift, that of suffering with and for Christ.
Now, Paul begins Chapter 2 with the word "therefore". Paul offers up a list for Christians (which is very moving), the fulfillment of which will make Paul's joy complete. With these verses we are working toward understanding the mind of Christ, which Paul says we are to have. The mind of Christ will be discussed fully in the next set of verses.
