What's Next in Generative AI? - Debate w. J. Andrulis, N. Mahmood, A. Braun, T. Wirtz, P. Gerbert

1E9
Discussion at the "Festival der Zukunft 2023" by 1E9 and Deutsches Museum on July 6, 2023, in Munich.

Description:
With experts from corporations, start-ups and academia, we want to find out how the field of generative AI will continue to develop. We want to discuss the following questions: How will AI chatbots and text generators influence our everyday work? Will AI that generates images, videos and audio disrupt the creative industry - or become its most powerful tool? How will Generative AI change the internet? How can ordinary users, as well as companies, make use of the power of generative AI in a safe and responsible way? In addition, we want to make a joint attempt to forecast the development of AI in the coming weeks, months, and years.

About the speakers:

Jonas Andrulis
Founder & CEO, Aleph Alpha
Jonas Andrulis is Founder and CEO of the Heidelberg AI R&D Start-Up Aleph Alpha. He received his engineering degree from KIT in Karlsruhe focusing on artificial intelligence and modelling. He is a serial entrepreneur successfully starting three AI software companies. From 2016 on he was senior AI R&D manager at Apple’s Special Projects Group (SPG). In his career he has been building diverse innovations at the forefront of the development towards transformative AI. This resulted in experiences from innovative academic experiments to building and operating petabyte machine learning pipelines for computer vision, language processing and strategy models.

Naureen Mahmood
CEO, Meshcapade GmbH
I am co-founder and CEO of Meshcapade, a tech-startup aimed at making realistic digital humans possible for everyone. We are bringing automated human body modelling, tracking and simulation techniques to the industry through a simple online platform. For more than a decade I have been building new methods for human body shape and pose estimation, as well as generative human body models for AI and machine learning. Before founding Meshcapade, I worked at Max Planck Institute for many years developing these solutions, including the SMPL Body Model, which has quickly become the de-facto standard in the field of computer vision and machine learning. With Meshcapade, we are commercializing the ground breaking technologies we built at Max Planck. We are democratizing the SMPL body model so that everyone can easily use it through our digital human platform.

Andreas Braun
Managing Director and Partner, BCG, former CTO, Microsoft Germany
Dr. Braun serves as a Managing Director and Partner for BCG, focusing mostly on applying technology to create business value, with a special interest in (Generative) AI. Previously, Andreas was the regional CTO for Microsoft in Germany and was in addition responsible for the technology solutions business for Data & AI. He supported customers in leveraging and implementing technology to their business advantage. Prior to that, Andreas Braun held various leadership roles as Managing Director/ Geschäftsführer at Accenture, including responsibility for building and running the Data & AI business in Europe. Before that, he built and managed the global Big Data & AI Competence Center of Allianz Group. In addition to (Gen) AI, data and cloud, his work focuses in particular on data privacy, industry-specific use cases and digital business models, especially in FSI. He is internationally active in many areas, e.g. as a consultant for the EU/EC or for the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Tim Wirtz
Managing Director Enterprise Information Systems, Fraunhofer institut of Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS)
Tim Wirtz holds a PhD in physics and has been a software developer since the age of 14. At Fraunhofer IAIS, he is the managing director of the department Enterprise Information Systems and conducts research together with his clients on issues related to the optimization of processes, the combination of physical models with machine learning methods, AI-driven experimentation, and generative AI based data analytics and integration. His department and he are driven to look for data-driven solutions where there is little data and it is expensive to collect it, precisely where engineering knowledge is (still) the driving force behind developments.

Philipp Gerbert
General Managing Director, TUM Venture Labs
I run the TUM Venture Labs, a network of Deep Tech / Life Sciences incubators associated with TUM and UnternehmerTUM. I am also on the board of appliedAI. I have a passion for AI, Quantum Computing and other deep-tech, as well as energy & climate action. Physicist by background, MIT PhD, long time Silicon Valley. In a previous life Senior Partner at BCG, focused on tech-based businesses.
