This is the first of four chapters on the prophecies against Egypt. Egypt is prophesied to be defeated, desolated and dispersed among the nations. This is difficult to understand because the prophecy has been completely fulfilled in the past. Not only was it prophesied to be defeated, but it was also prophesied to return to their homeland after only 40 years. We will see that, yes, it is the grace of God that allows this, but the real reason is stated in verse 16; they are to be a reminder to Judah for a specific sin. This is discussed.
