Today is the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. We celebrate the living presence of our Lord in the consecrated host and wine, which we partake of at the Holy Mass.
After Jesus had multiplied bread and fish, which fed five thousand, he proclaimed to the Jewish crowds that he is the “living bread that came down from heaven”—but they cannot believe him. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked. We know how Jesus can give his flesh as food.
On the night he was betrayed, Jesus made a covenant with his disciples through the broken bread and the wine. Now his body and blood, which they ate and drank. Through the breaking of bread, his disciples recognized him, Thou Risen.
At every mass the bread and wine become Jesus' body and blood through his words and by the Holy Spirit whose power is in vote. How blessed are we who are nourished by the living bread sent by the father?
How blessed are we to be always in communion with Jesus?
